NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – According to a law enforcement source, Atlanta police have a house surrounded in connection to an investigation involving the New Orleans jailbreak.
Derrick Groves in the last of 10 escaped inmates that hasn’t been captured.
Groves, 31, escaped from the Orleans Parish Justice Center in New Orleans on May 16, 2025, along with nine other inmates in what has become one of Louisiana’s most high-profile jail breaks in decades. While most of the escapees were captured within weeks, Groves has remained at large for nearly five months.

NEW ORLEANS — Authorities in Atlanta are engaged in a standoff with a man believed to be Derrick Groves, the last remaining fugitive from the Orleans Justice Center jailbreak.
Law enforcement sources tell WWL that officers surrounded a home in southwest Atlanta Wednesday afternoon after receiving information that Groves may be inside.
They say the home has been gassed multiple times but no one has come outside.
Groves escaped from the New Orleans jail on May 16 along with nine others. While the others have since been recaptured, Groves has remained on the run for nearly five months.
