Meet the New Nasdaq-100 Stock That’s Crushing Nvidia, Micron, and Sandisk. Is It Too Late to Buy?

In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) stocks soared in the triple and quadruple digits, leading the S&P 500 higher. Investors rushed to get in on the next big tech growth story, a technology with the potential to transform how many things are done and, as a result, fuel significant gains in corporate earnings. Companies such as AI chip designer Nvidia and memory chip providers Micron Technology and Sandisk have seen their shares skyrocket, and the positive momentum continues today.

But this year, AI stocks haven't been the only growth story. In fact, though they continue to advance, investors have expanded into other industries and turned their attention to new growth opportunities. And this brings me to the stock I'll talk about right here.

Moderna Stock Is Soaring on Cancer Vaccine Buzz. Is It Too Late to Get In?

Moderna has surged more than 650% this year on cancer vaccine excitement, but analyst targets sit far below the current share price. Before you chase the rally, there are some uncomfortable numbers you need to see first.

Moderna (NASDAQ:MRNA | MRNA Price Prediction) has risen 658.2% year to date, from $29.49 at the end of 2025 to $223.60 in premarket trading on Thursday. That premarket price is 1.2% below Wednesday’s $226.30 close. Investors who missed the run now face a valuation question. Analyst targets and valuation data help answer that question.

On August 19, shares rose 177%, Moderna’s best day ever. The jump came after its personalized cancer vaccine, developed with Merck (NYSE:MRK), showed promise in its first late-stage trial. Before that, five-year Phase 2b data presented at ASCO 2026 showed a 49% reduction in the risk of return or death when intismeran was added to Keytruda. Jim Cramer called the vaccine “miraculous” on Mad Money on August 31. On October 1, he said the shift away from COVID “verifies the excitement and the move.” Valuation metrics add harder numbers to that view.
