The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 4 Renewal Gets Official Status Update From Producer Scott Gimple: 'I Think It's Got A Good Shot At It' (Exclusive)
The Walking Dead: Dead City has a "good shot" at being renewed for Season 4, according to the franchise's lead and executive producer, Scott M. Gimple. Dead City Season 3 stands as the New York spin-off's highest-rated entry yet on Rotten Tomatoes with a 100% critic score, ahead of Season 1's 80% and Season 2's 56%, making it something of a return to form for Maggie and Negan's story. As the season concluded in September, Dead City teased an expansion beyond Manhattan into other New York boroughs for Season 4 after Maggie accepted Negan, her late husband Glenn's killer, as family going forward.
The Direct spoke exclusively with The Walking Dead Chief Content Officer (CCO) Scott M. Gimple at MultiCon 2026, several weeks into Dead City Season 3's eight-week run on AMC and AMC+. The 16-year-old TV franchise's top boss was asked whether Dead City will be renewed for Season 4, to which he called "for everyone to hold out hope" because its viewership and reactions have been stellar:

Walking Dead fans rocked by divisive franchise return update
Television has changed exponentially over the course of the past two decades but The Walking Dead franchise has been one of the few constants. When the original series began in 2010, broadcast was still thriving, cable was still a dominant source of prestige television, and TV as a genre had much more variety. Now, streaming is dominating everything and, even though broadcast and cable have reshaped their content distribution to ensure that it enjoys a very successful streaming afterlife, far less people watch TV on the night anymore.
And yet, through it all, the TWD Universe has amassed a larger-than-life fanbase that still actively consumes its content on an annual basis (and all-year round on streaming), entertaining them in today's day and age with spinoffs and sequels focused on major characters from the OG series. And yet, despite its continued success, a new update from the man behind it all is somewhat disconcerting for the future of one series – and, therefore, the future of the franchise.
