Houston weather: Friday Storm Alert as Texas storm approaches
Thursday's Texas storms mostly stayed out of Houston, but our flood risk increases Friday as the storms come in.
The risk for flooding across Houston and surrounding cities remains elevated for the next few days. We are under a FOX 26 storm alert through Friday night. Expect rounds of heavy rain that could lead to some flooded streets with the best chance west and northwest of Houston. Places like College Station, Brenham, Sealy and Columbus will likely be the hardest hit over the next 24 hours. Walker, Grimes, Montgomery, Waller, Harris, Wharton, Fort Bend & Jackson counties have been added to a Flood Watch until 7 PM Friday. Please remember to avoid any flooded areas while walking or driving.

HOUSTON – The Houston area is in for several rounds of rain and thunderstorms through the weekend, with storms becoming more numerous at times as a front approaches.
Most areas could pick up 1 to 3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts possible where storms repeatedly move over the same areas. Central Texas could see 3 to 6 inches or more.
The main concern locally will be flooding in the heaviest downpours, particularly in areas that receive multiple rounds of rain.
Rain and storm coverage will continue throughout the day, with thunderstorms becoming more numerous late.
The best chance for storms will be across west and southwest areas. A very isolated flooding threat is possible, mainly where heavier storms linger or repeatedly move over the same location.
