Parts of New Mexico could break rainfall records this week
Clovis to declare an emergency on Thursday, a week after receiving around 10 inches of rain
Over the past week, storms have produced several inches of rain across New Mexico, causing widespread flooding and a fatality.
The state is expected to get several inches of precipitation through Wednesday.
National Weather Service of Albuquerque meteorologist Brian Guyer said he attributed the new round of rain to remnant moisture from Hurricane Polo, along with an area of low pressure from California and Nevada, which will merge on Tuesday.
In the metro area, Albuquerque could receive 2-3 inches through Wednesday morning, he said.
“Because we experienced heavy rainfall for much of the past week to two weeks, the soils are saturated, and so it’s going to be easy to flood with this additional rainfall,” Guyer said. “So folks just need to be mindful to stay away from the arroyos, especially the urban drainages and channels.”
