Coinbase software engineer Alex Wormuth created the open experiment Stonkfly: a virtual copy of a fruit fly’s brain looks at a Bitcoin candlestick chart and tries to make trading decisions using a reward system.
The mechanics are simple: the system shows the model a price chart, and profitable actions are rewarded with a signal similar to dopamine reinforcement. At the same time, the “fly” itself does not receive quotes as numbers — it only sees the picture.
Alex Wormuth posted the Stonkfly code on GitHub and opened a public monitoring dashboard. The virtual nervous system is built on 166,700 neurons and about 25.6 million connections between them.
