Watch Khan's origin and his revenge in one night: Star Trek's 60th hits theaters with genius pairings

Ricardo Montalban’s Khan doesn’t just show up in Wrath of Khan looking for payback; he was planted there years earlier, genetically engineered and exiled by Kirk himself in an Original Series episode most casual fans have never seen on a big screen. Starting September 4, AMC Theatres and Cinemark are pairing “Space Seed” with the director’s cut of Wrath of Khan on the same bill, letting audiences watch the setup and the payoff back to back. It’s one of four such double features built around the franchise’s 60th anniversary, each pairing a classic TOS episode with the theatrical film it quietly seeded. Cinemark has locked in its showtimes; AMC’s are still coming, though its concession stands will already be stocked with collector popcorn buckets shaped like the original Enterprise. The whole thing builds toward September 8, the exact 60-year mark since Star Trek first aired in 1966.
