Guardians' scuffling offense can't back Bibee — are reinforcements coming?
CLEVELAND — Tanner Bibee walked off the mound at Progressive Field on Friday to a standing ovation from a sellout crowd of 36,639. Mere moments later, boos from the Cleveland faithful echoed around the ballpark.
“Just an outstanding performance by Tanner,” Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said. “We just unfortunately were not able to get enough runs to support him.”
The Guardians languished through their latest punchless night offensively in a 4-1 loss to the D-backs in the opener of a three-game series. Bibee departed with one out in the eighth inning, after Arizona put a pair of runners on while Cleveland was clinging to a one-run lead.

CLEVELAND — The Diamondbacks ran their winning streak to four games with a 12-8 victory over the Guardians at Progressive Field Saturday night, Aug. 1, scoring seven runs in the seventh inning in what was their longest nine-inning game of the season, 3 hours and 39 minutes.
Geraldo Perdomo hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning, the first of seven Diamondbacks runs in that frame. Perdomo finished with four hits, including a bases-loaded, two-run single in the top of the ninth to provide two key insurance runs.
"Not much to say," Perdomo said. "Just getting better. … That's the way. We're doing really good practice and it's been paying off so far."
