Massive cyclosporiasis outbreak linked to four more states
Nine states now have related cases of diarrheal illness caused by the microscopic cyclospora parasite and thought to be linked with iceberg lettuce, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Four more states â Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania â have been added to the outbreak that already includes Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia.
Data continues to show that contaminated iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms de Mexico made people sick, the CDC said. The agency has tallied 1,947 people infected with cyclospora who also reported eating at Taco Bell in the nine states. Illnesses in the outbreak tied to iceberg lettuce began June 22 and have continued through July 20, the CDC said.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal health officials on Friday said they have linked cases of a diarrhea-causing parasite tied to shredded lettuce to an additional four states, expanding the scope of the largest U.S. outbreak of cyclospora.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the outbreak first tied to Taco Bell restaurants now includes Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Pennsylvania. Previously the agency’s investigation included five states: Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia.
The CDC, Food and Drug Administration and state health officials have been tracing the supply of the lettuce and interviewing people across the nation about the foods they ate two weeks before getting sick.
