2026-27 NHL season to start on Sept. 29 with Carolina-Florida, Toronto-Montreal
The 2026-27 NHL season will get off to a rollicking start on Sept. 29 when the defending Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes host the rival Florida Panthers in an opening night tripleheader on ESPN.
The game in Raleigh (5 p.m. ET; ESPN), which will see the Hurricanes raise their championship banner in front of the Panthers, champs in 2024 and 2025, was announced on Wednesday, along with the home-opening games for all 32 teams.
The ESPN tripleheader will continue with the Boston Bruins hosting the New York Rangers (8 p.m. ET) followed by the Western Conference champion Vegas Golden Knights hosting the Chicago Blackhawks (10:30 p.m. ET).
Bruins to open season against Rangers at TD Garden in matchup with their longtime rivals
The Black and Gold are going old school for Opening Night.
The Bruins will start the 2026-27 season by hosting the Rangers, a fellow Original Six franchise, on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at TD Garden. The 8 p.m. puck drop will be broadcast on ESPN and 98.5 The Sports Hub.
The full NHL slate will be announced at 1 p.m. Thursday. Individual tickets for the season will go on sale to the public at 2 p.m. Friday at bostonbruins.com/tickets.
The Bruins are 307-257-97-14 (178-108-42-8 at home) all-time against the Rangers.
It was a busy offseason between the two franchises, who made a pair of July 1 trades.
