Organizers urge safety ahead of 241st Bristol Fourth of July Parade

BRISTOL, R.I. (WJAR) — Leaders in Bristol are asking community members to keep safety top of mind ahead of the town’s historic 241st Fourth of July celebration.
"Communities come together. Families gather. We have fireworks which light up the sky and people make memories that last a lifetime," said Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association Executive Director Sid Wordell.
Bristol hosts the country's oldest continuous Independence Day celebration, headlined by the annual parade.

‘The most patriotic town in the US’: Bristol goes big on the Fourth every year
BRISTOL, R.I. â In Bristol, every Fourth of July is a big deal.
Year-round, the center lines on Hope Street are painted red, white, and blue. Nearly every home downtown displays an American flag, or has windowsills lined with patriotic bunting.
Home to the oldest continuous Fourth of July celebration in the country, Bristolâs parade on Saturday is expected to draw 300,000 people from around the US, said Jenn Little, a committee member and spokesperson for the parade.
âThis is the most patriotic town in the United States,â Little said. âWe always take it as seriously as if it was USA 250.â
