Greyhound buses return to Asheville with new location, pickup spots
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Over ten months after Hurricane Helene, Greyhound buses are finally back in Asheville with a new location and pickup spots.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) said the relaunch of this crucial bus service marks a major step forward in restoring vital transportation access for Asheville and all of Western North Carolina.
Greyhound will now pick up passengers from downtown Asheville on Asheland Avenue.

The bus is also offering new pick-up times to make trips more convenient. Greyhound will run two different routes through Asheville: One that picks up and drops off at 8 a.m., and one at 9:35 a.m.

ASHEVILLE – Greyhound service is returning to Asheville Aug. 1. It was suspended for nearly a year after Tropical Storm Helene destroyed the bus stop, located at a gas station along Swannanoa River Road, an area inundated with floodwaters in the September storm.
“This is huge news for our community. We have folks who don’t have access to a car, who don’t have the resources or ability to fly, that have been stranded, not being able to connect with their family, for 10 months," City Council member Kim Roney told the Citizen Times July 31.
Greyhound will now pick up and drop off passengers on Asheland Avenue, outside of the downtown Asheville Rides Transit Station, the hub for the city's bus system. This means access to seating, shelter and restrooms for Greyhound riders, infrastructure that was lacking even before the storm, Roney said.

NCDOT Restores Intercity Bus Service to Asheville Nearly One Year After Hurricane Helene
ASHEVILLE N.C. — The North Carolina Department of Transportation will resume intercity bus service in downtown Asheville on August 1, marking the end of a nearly year-long suspension that began when Hurricane Helene devastated the region in late 2024.
The restored service, operated by Greyhound under contract with NCDOT’s Integrated Mobility Division, will utilize a new pickup and drop-off location on Ashland Avenue outside the downtown Asheville Rides Transit (ART) Transit Station. This represents a significant improvement from the previous location at a gas station outside the city, which was destroyed during the hurricane.
The new arrangement comes after months of coordination between NCDOT’s Integrated Mobility Division and city officials in Asheville.
