13-year-old boy riding e-motorcycle dies after crash in Garden Grove; police cite growing safety concerns
GAREN GROVE, Calif. (KABC) — A 13-year-old boy has died after crashing an electric motorcycle in Garden Grove Thursday night, police said.
The teen, who has not been identified, was believed to be going about 35 miles per hour when he approached a curve and collided with a center median, according to authorities.
The crash happened just before 10 p.m. Police say the teen was riding by himself when he crashed and was ejected from the motorcycle.
Garden Grove Police said the e-motorcycle involved was not street legal and emphasized it was not an e-bike, noting it did not have pedals and was more comparable to a dirt bike that would be used for off-roading.

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. – Authorities are investigating a crash that claimed the life of a 13-year-old boy riding an electric motorcycle late Thursday night in Garden Grove.
The collision happened on May 6 at around 9:50 p.m. near the intersection of Magnolia Street and Larson Avenue, according to police.
Authorities were first alerted by Life360, a location-sharing app, which reported a possible collision.
At the scene, officers found a boy who appeared to be unconscious. According to investigators, the boy, who is from Santa Ana, was traveling at about 35 mph in one lane of Magnolia Street when he suddenly lost control, struck the center median, and was ejected from the bike.
