SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A mass power outage is currently being reported by SMUD throughout Sacramento and adjacent areas, according to their website.
Currently, almost 30k people are currently without power. The current cause of the power outage is unknown, but likely related to weather reasons, according to SMUD. Crewmembers are on site and working to get power lines back on.
Restoration times will be impacted based on working conditions and are unclear at this time, according to SMUD. This is a developing story.
Sacramento area power outages impacts thousands, numerous trees reported down
As thunderstorms move through the Sacramento area, the Sacramento Municipal Utility District says there are scattered outages.
According to SMUD's website, more than 29,000 customers were without power shortly before 8 p.m. A large number of those customers were in the Florin, Arden or Folsom areas.
SMUD said its crews are working to restore power as soon as possible. By 9 p.m., a vast majority of the customers had their power restored.
The National Weather Service said numerous trees and branches have been reported down throughout the area as the storm moves through. Southwest winds are gusting up to 30 to 40 mph.
