HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The Houston Police Department said an officer and his canine colleague are recovering from a crash that flipped his police cruiser in downtown overnight Friday.
According to HPD, the officer and K9 were on their way to assist with a chase when the police cruiser collided with a black Jeep on Smith Street at Pease Street at around midnight. Police said the Jeep ran a red light, which caused the crash. The officer's vehicle flipped and rolled, traveling nearly a block, according to authorities.
Police said the officer had his lights and sirens activated when the crash happened.

HOUSTON – A Houston police K-9 officer was injured in a crash in Downtown Houston around midnight Saturday while responding to assist officers involved in a pursuit near Allen Parkway and Dunlavy Street, police said.
The officer was driving south on Smith Street when another vehicle traveling west on Pease Street collided with the patrol unit, according to investigators. The impact caused the patrol vehicle to flip and roll nearly an entire block.
Police said the officer was able to get his bearings, radio his location and check on the occupants of the other vehicle. He was taken to a nearby hospital and is believed to be in stable condition. The K-9 was also transported for evaluation as a precaution.

HOUSTON — An officer and his police dog are recovering after a rollover crash early Saturday morning, according to the Houston Police Department.
The crash happened on Smith Street at Pease Street around midnight.
HPD said the officer was driving south on Smith with his lights and sirens on to help other officers in a separate incident when he got into a crash with a car heading west on Pease.
The officer's patrol vehicle rolled over and eventually landed upside down.
HPD said the officer was taken to a hospital and is expected to be OK. The police dog was also taken for medical attention as a precaution.
