Seth MacFarlane Teases New Life for ‘The Orville’: “Season 4 Is Written”

The star gives The Hollywood Reporter an update on his pricey Hulu sci-fi series that has not debuted new episodes in nearly four years.

Seth MacFarlane‘s The Orville may be ready to take flight again.

MacFarlane, who is promoting Thursday’s launch for the second season of Peacock series Ted, tells The Hollywood Reporter that the writing team behind The Orville has penned 10 episodes for a potential fourth season. MacFarlane created and stars in the sci-fi series that aired its first two seasons on Fox before moving to Hulu for a third run that debuted in June 2022.

“I will be honest with you: Season four is written,” MacFarlane says of The Orville. “It’s just a question of when we have the time to produce it.”

Seth MacFarlane Says THE ORVILLE Season 4 Scripts Done

It’s been over four years since we’ve had a new season of Seth MacFarlane’s sci-fi comedy series The Orville, and many assumed it was all over. But via The Hollywood Reporter, its creator has confirmed that the show is not only alive, but a 10-episode fourth season has scripts already written. It’s only a matter of making his schedule work to film the new series. The Orville began its life on the Fox network in 2017, before moving to Hulu in 2022 for a third season. Seth MacFarlane Offers A Hopeful Update On The Orville Season 4: 'It's Just A Question Of When'

Don't give up hope, "The Orville" fans: A new season might not be light years away after all.

Seth MacFarlane, who created and stars in the sci-fi series, shed light on the show's status when speaking with The Hollywood Reporter this week: "I will be honest with you: Season 4 is written. It's just a question of when we have the time to produce it."

He added that "the 10 scripts are done," which indicates that we can expect Season 4 to have 10 episodes, but "I'm the problem," he admits. "It's [a matter of] when I can make that my year, with all the other stuff we have in the works. But we can hit the ground running when it happens." (MacFarlane is currently promoting Season 2 of the Peacock comedy "Ted," on top of working on his Fox animated comedies "Family Guy" and "American Dad!," along with various other projects.)
