Canada needs exposure, not sympathy: Dilpreet Bajwa
Canada captain Dilpreet Bajwa has made it clear that associate nations like his are not seeking sympathy from the cricketing world, but sustained exposure through franchise leagues and stronger bilateral support, asserting that the gap with full-member sides stems more from limited opportunities than a lack of talent.
Bajwa credited the rise of franchise cricket in Canada as a major boost for players who otherwise struggle for consistent match practice, especially during long winters. “I would like to thank Yuvraj (Singh) who bought Canada Super 60, because this is what we were lacking. The GT20 (Global T20 Canada) was not there last year.

Except the 15 players who are representing India at the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, there are 40 cricketers — dispersed across multiple teams — who share some form of connection with India.
The recurring theme, on most cases, is that of how lack of opportunities and an insane level of competition drove a player out of India, to a nation where chances of selection are significantly higher, and how, in hindsight, the decision proved vindicated.
Bajwa had even been assured that his maiden Ranji Trophy cap was imminent, having impressed selectors through a string of consistent performances in inter-district tournaments and Punjab Cricket Association camps.

The results you would have wanted to be different, but I'm sure after having spent so much time off the field, you haven't played much in recent months. That's not the worst performance.
Yeah, I think it could have been a bit better. I feel like we did have a training camp in Sri Lanka for about the past month before we came here. But I think what we learned today was you know South Africa has one of the best pace attacks in the world with all their four guys pulling probably 140 plus. So there's a lot of good learnings for us. Yes we could have executed better with the ball and maybe restricted them to 180 and with the bat I think we in the middle, I mean obviously at the start we lost a lot of wickets, but in the middle I felt like even me, maybe if I'd not played – I think I got the, the pace was okay for me. I think it was a slower ball that I played a few dot balls with. So just little things that we can learn from but obviously playing against South Africa it's a massive boost for a country like Canada you know and it'll just help us in the future.
