How many inches of snow did Rhode Island get? See NWS totals by town

While original forecasts called for 4 inches of snow, parts of the state saw as much as nine inches of snow in Saturday's storm.

While the snow is over, bitter cold temperatures are expected to continue in Rhode Island today, with a cold weather advisory issued through 1 p.m. today.

"The cold wind chills as low as 15 below zero could result in hypothermia or frostbite if precautions are not taken," the National Weather Service advisory says.

Looking ahead, temperatures are expected to get a little warmer this week, but another mid-week storm is on the horizon.

"Bitter cold continues today into Monday before temperatures improve slightly Tuesday. Another system moving in sometime midweek could bring some snow showers for southern New England and even some rain closer to the south coast, but uncertainty remains," the NWS forecast says.

Snowfall, bitter cold continue to be a struggle for Southern New Englanders

SEEKONK, Mass. (WPRI) — Between January and February, the Providence area has seen almost 25 inches of snow, and there’s more in the forecast for Tuesday night.

On top of that, this is the coldest winter we’ve had in 30 years, which has prevented much of that snow from melting.

In the video above, meteorologist Catie McNeil looks at how Southern New Englanders are dealing with the harsh conditions and why ice dams can be a problem for homeowners.
