Sweepstakes casino ban updates: Momentum building early in 2026

Early in 2026, several states have taken steps towards banning sweepstakes casinos, including Indiana, Maine and Massachusetts.

Indiana and Maine have both scheduled hearings in January for legislation that would ban sweepstakes casinos in some way. Indiana’s House Public Policy Committee heard testimony for House Bill 1052 on Tuesday, while Maine’s Joint Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee has scheduled a hearing on Legislative Document 2007 for Jan. 14.

In Massachusetts, the Joint Economic Development and Emerging Technologies Committee imposed a deadline of March 16 to decide whether to move forward with House Bill 4431, which would legalize real money online casinos and ban sweepstakes sites.
