Browns request interview with Ravens OC Todd Monken

After firing Kevin Stefanski on Monday, the Browns have put in a request to interview a former assistant for the vacancy who now works for a division rival.

Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Cleveland has requested to speak with Baltimore offensive coordinator Todd Monken.

Monken, 59, has been with the Ravens for the last three seasons. But he was also the Browns' OC under former head coach Freddie Kitchens in 2019. Kitchens called plays for Cleveland that season.

The Ravens have finished No. 6, No. 1, and No. 16 in yards and No. 4, No. 3, and No. 11 in points in the team’s last three seasons under Monken.

Browns request to interview Ravens' OC Todd Monken for coaching vacancy

Todd Monken and the Ravens could be parting ways, but the veteran offensive coordinator will have his share of suitors. One potential team could be the Browns, who've requested to interview Baltimore's embattled offensive coordinator, Ian Rapoport reports hours after the team fired head coach Kevin Stefanski.

The Ravens finished the 2025 season 8-9 after starting the season 1-5, and out of the playoffs after Tyler Loop missed a 44-yard field goal as time expired to suffer a 26-24 loss to the hated Steelers in Pittsburgh on Sunday.

The idea was that as long as No. 8 is under center, Baltimore can win any game. The future was supposed to begin and end with the two-time MVP quarterback. Last season, the 28-year-old Jackson set career highs in touchdown passes (41), passing yards (4,172), and quarterback rating (119.6) while throwing just four interceptions. Entering his third season as offensive coordinator, Jackson's growth as a quarterback was expected to continue and reach another level as he enters the prime of his career. Monken and the Ravens offense cratered and regressed. Baltimore had the NFL's second-best rushing attack and finished 16th in total offense at 332.2 yards per game. Still, the most disheartening discussions center on Monken's comfort with leaving Derrikck Henry on the bench in critical moments, and the lack of production at the wide receiver spot beyond Pro Bowl pass-catcher Zay Flowers.

Browns 1st HC search interview: Request interview with their former OC, current rival’s OC

The Cleveland Browns head coaching search will start with an interview with Baltimore Ravens OC Todd Monken

The day after firing HC Kevin Stefanski, the Cleveland Browns had not made public any head coaching candidates that were going to be interviewed. The NFL’s rules and, likely, the Browns internal list of candidates mostly being in the NFL playoffs, had a lot to do with the lack of information available.

Tuesday afternoon, the first bit of news rolled out with Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken being sought for an interview in Cleveland.

Monken is in his 37th year of coaching with a strong mix of college and NFL experience, including one year as the Browns offensive coordinator in 2019 in Freddie Kitchens’ lone year as the team’s head coach. Monken spent the next three seasons as the offensive coordinator for the Georgia Bulldogs, including two National Championships, before returning to the NFL as Lamar Jackson’s coordinator with the Ravens.
