Premier League clubs spent a record £3 billion ($4 billion) in a summer transfer window that smashed the previous record of £2.36 billion ($3.2 billion) from two summers ago.
So will January follow the same pattern? Here are grades for all the major confirmed transfers in the men's game, with each listed by date and then by highest fee.
Johnson enjoyed two productive seasons with Tottenham, relying on two key traits — speed and scoring goals at the back post — to carve out a role under then-manager Ange Postecoglou that culminated in him scoring the winner in the Europa League final. But since Thomas Frank took the reins in June, the Wales international has fallen down the pecking order, making just eight starts in the Premier League and Champions League.
Spurs have sold Brennan Johnson – was cashing in now a good idea?

Just days after The Athletic reported that Tottenham Hotspur had agreed a fee with Crystal Palace for the sale of forward Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace, the forward’s move across London has been finalised.
The 24-year-old, signed from Nottingham Forest in 2023, has not scored in the Premier League since August, having been restricted largely to a bench role as Tottenham’s first season under Thomas Frank has unfolded. He started just three of Tottenham’s last 16 league matches, although he did start a further four matches in the League Cup and Champions League in that time.

Brennan Johnson: Wales forward completes £35m move from Tottenham to Crystal Palace
Brennan Johnson is set to be included in Crystal Palace's squad to face Newcastle on Sunday after the forward's club-record £35m move from Tottenham was finalised on Friday.
Bournemouth were also keen to sign the Wales international as a replacement for Manchester City target Antoine Semenyo.
But, after talks with Palace boss Oliver Glasner on Thursday, Johnson was persuaded to move to Selhurst Park.
"Crystal Palace are such a great club, one that I've always admired.
"It's a great time for me to be here and join the journey that this club is on – I'm super excited."
Johnson's arrival eclipses the £27m the Eagles paid for Liverpool striker Christian Benteke in 2016 as their record transfer.
