Marines 'toy' with success as 33-hour drive wraps up with heaps of holiday cheer

HOOVER, Ala. (WBMA) — The Marine Corps Toys for Tots 33-hour holiday toy drive wrapped up Sunday, Dec. 14, after more than a full day of community giving in Hoover.

The annual drive, held in partnership with ABC 33/40, brought together Marines, volunteers and local shoppers with a shared goal of supporting families in need this holiday season. Throughout the event, donors dropped off a wide variety of gifts, including baby dolls, basketballs, bicycles and other toys for children of all ages.

Last year’s drive resulted in more than 41,000 donated toys, and organizers said they were hopeful to significantly surpass that number this year.

US Marines collect thousands of toys across DC for annual Toys for Tots drive

WASHINGTON (7News) — On a chill Monday morning, US Marine troops made several stops around the District to collect the Toys for Toys boxes.

The team, driven by D.C.'s Big Bus Tour company, stopped by at least six locations to meet employees and collect the toys from the months-long toy drive.

"We started on Oct. 1," Sgt. Sean Clark told 7News. "We have about 36,000 kids that we're trying to support."

The toys that are collected by the Marines are transported to a warehouse, where they are sorted and then distributed to non-profits and churches that have direct access to kids and families in need.
