Watch Spinal Tap II & Sarah Sherman's new comedy special with Sling
In the mood for something new to watch? A pair of comedies make their streaming premieres on HBO Max tonight, Dec. 12, setting you up for the ideal evening to stay in and hit play.
First up is Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, the highly anticipated mockumentary-comedy sequel that cranks the amp back up on another round of rock-and-roll chaos. The sequel follows an iconic rock band reuniting 15 years later for one last show. Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer reprise their roles as members of the fictional heavy metal band Spinal Tap.
And for viewers who prefer their laughs live and unfiltered, Sarah Sherman's debut stand-up comedy special, Sarah Squirm: Live + In the Flesh, will also be available for streaming. Sherman has been a cast member on "Saturday Night Live" for four seasons and also created the live show "Helltrap Nightmare."
Spinal Tap II: The End Continues (2025) Movie Review: A Harmless, If Ultimately Juiceless Cover Of An All-Time Comedy Classic
There isnât exactly a great track record for comedy sequels, and the few that stand out as being completely successful (âBill & Tedâs Bogus Journeyâ or âWayneâs World 2â) tend to benefit from the momentum of an immediate success. Itâs far harder to revitalize a property that has already developed a unique cultural legacy, inspiring imitators and rip-offs, and there arenât many comedies from the last several decades as influential as âThis Is Spinal Tap.â Rob Reinerâs quintessential 1984 masterpiece isnât only one of the funniest films ever made, but also an insightful exposĂŠ of the unusual behavior of metal bands, which some musicians declared shockingly, almost painfully authentic.

Itâs a schedule optimized for tasting new shows and also for binging others to the bottom of your weeklong binge list, from cult comedy to music-mockumentary mayhem and an investigation that wonât let history remain buried.
