Florida QB DJ Lagway plans to enter NCAA Transfer Portal
Florida sophomore quarterback DJ Lagway plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal after two seasons with the Gators, according to On3âs Pete Nakos.
He signed with the Gators in 2024 as the crown jewel of Billy Napierâs recruiting class. Over the next two years, he appeared in 21 games and was the teamâs full-time starter in 2025. After ending his first campaign by leading the Gators to five wins in their final six games, he came into this year with Heisman buzz and high expectations.
But the 6-foot-3, 247-pounder struggled mightily with turnovers and inconsistency. Across the teamâs 12 games, he completed under 60& of his passes while throwing for 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
DJ Lagway to enter transfer portal: Florida Gators quarterback exiting team after Billy Napier ouster
Florida Gators sophomore quarterback DJ Lagway is set to enter the transfer portal after his second season with the team, according to ESPNâs Pete Thamel. Lagway, a former five-star prospect who largely committed to Florida due to the presence of head coach Billy Napier, appears will be seeking a new program amid poor play and his coach being fired in the midst of his fourth year leading the team.
Impressing as a true freshman while flashing playmaking skills after replacing injured starting QB Graham Mertz in 2024, Lagway completed 60% of his passes for 1,915 yards with 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions. However, after being promoted as a potential Heisman Trophy candidate in his sophomore campaign, he instead struggled in 2025, completing 63% of his passes for 2,264 yards with 16 touchdowns and 14 interceptions while starting all 12 games.

Where Florida's Defensive Roster Stands In Between Signing Day and Portal Opening
The Florida Gators are entering a new era in 2026. A new head coach is on the sidelines, and a new identity will be implemented. New coordinators have been or are in the process of joining over the next 30 days, hoping to provide a breath of fresh air for all the players on the roster as well.Â
Additionally, while all this is happening, Gators head coach Jon Sumrall and his assistant coaches have another set of tasks in front of them. They have to assess every player in the building and figure out which positions to prioritize in the transfer portal.Â
