Brosmer gets 1st start in Vikings-Darnold reunion
Stephen A. Smith calls out Vikings leadership for not giving Justin Jefferson a better QB than J.J. McCarthy. (1:45)
J.J. McCarthy landed in the NFL's concussion protocol last week, months after Sam Darnold left Minnesota for Seattle.
The fallout from both of those situations will have a direct impact on Sunday's matchup between the Darnold-less Vikings and Darnold-led Seahawks.
On back-to-back fourth-quarter plays last week in Green Bay, McCarthy had his head slam into the ground — the first when he was tackled by Packers linebacker Isaiah McDuffie, and then on the next play when he was chased and tackled by Green Bay defensive end Kingsley Enagbare.
Vikings have cautious optimism about Max Brosmer
He's gotten a little garbage-time action this year, once on each side of a blowout. On Sunday, Vikings quarterback Max Brosmer gets his first real shot.
Undrafted out of Minnesota, by way of New Hampshire, Brosmer is the only quarterback other than J.J. McCarthy who has consistently had a spot on the active roster since signing on April 26. Multiple others have come and gone.
During McCarthy's absence due to an ankle sprain, Brosmer was the understudy to Carson Wentz. In Week 5 against the Browns, it seemed at halftime that Brosmer would enter the game after Wentz suffered an injury to his non-throwing shoulder.

Vikings to start rookie QB Max Brosmer vs. Seahawks with J.J. McCarthy in concussion protocol
Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell announced on Friday that undrafted rookie Max Brosmer will start Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks with J.J. McCarthy still in the league's concussion protocol.
McCarthy has been limited in practice this week since O'Connell told reporters on Monday that reported some symptoms on the trip back to Minnesota following their Week 12 loss at Green Bay and was evaluated further later that evening.
Sunday will mark Brosmer's first career start and his first game action since he went 3-of-4 passing in a late relief appearance for then-Vikings starter Carson Wentz in a blowout loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Oct. 23.
