Federal officials unveil more charges against the former Olympic snowboarder accused of running international drug ring
Federal officials unveiled additional charges on Wednesday against a former Olympic snowboarder for Canada who has been wanted for allegedly running a drug trafficking ring.
The new charges against Ryan James Wedding include murder, witness tampering, money laundering and drug trafficking, Attorney General Pam Bondi said at news conference.
The murder charge, Bondi said, stemmed from WeddingâÂÂs alleged involvement in the slaying of a federal witness in Colombia who was involved in the governmentâÂÂs case against him.
âÂÂProtecting federal witnesses from retaliation is core to the departmentâÂÂs mission. ItâÂÂs about individual safety, but more, itâÂÂs about protecting the rule of law itself,â she said.

The FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) charged Ryan Wedding, a Canadian former Olympic snowboarder, with overseeing the operations of a criminal enterprise and ordering multiple murders, including the shooting death of a federal witness in January.
Wedding, who is still at large, competed in the 2002 Winter Olympics. He was first indicted in June 2024 on charges of running a continuing criminal enterprise, murder and conspiring to possess, distribute and export cocaine.
In October 2024, authorities announced that a superseding indictment included charges of trafficking large quantities of cocaine from California to Canada, three counts of murder and one count of attempt to commit murder.

Ryan Wedding: Ex-Olympian turned alleged drug kingpin accused of ordering killing of witness
WASHINGTON (KABC) — Federal investigators announced the arrest of nearly a dozen people alleged to be part of an international drug ring responsible for bringing $1 billion worth of cocaine and other narcotics into the United States each year, from Mexico to Southern California.
But the former Olympic snowboarder accused of being the ringleader is still on the loose.
Ryan James Wedding, a 44-year-old Canadian and member of that country's 2002 Winter Olympics team, is accused of running a criminal enterprise that has smuggled six metric tons of cocaine a year into Los Angeles via semitrucks from Mexico.
"Ryan Wedding is a modern day iteration of Pablo Escobar," FBI Director Kash Patel said at a news conference Wednesday. "He's a modern day iteration of 'El Chapo' Guzman."
