American Cinematheque Award 2025 Red Carpet: Michael B. Jordan, Ryan Coogler & More

Hollywood showed out in support of Michael B. Jordan on Thursday as he received the 39th American Cinematheque Award during a ceremony at the Beverly Hilton.

Ryan Coogler, Tessa Thompson, Mahershala Ali, Daniel Kaluuya, Delroy Lindo, Yvette Nicole Brown and more were in attendance for the event honoring the Sinners star, with the Los Angeles theater programming five titles from his and frequent collaborator Coogler’s repertoire through Nov. 22.

The annual fundraiser benefitting nonprofit American Cinematheque previously honored Jessica Chastain at its 2024 ceremony, with the award in years past going to Helen Mirren, Ryan Reynolds, Scarlett Johansson, Spike Lee, Charlize Theron, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Ridley Scott and more, dating back to Eddie Murphy in 1986.

Michael B. Jordan gets emotional during his American Cinematheque Awards speech: ‘I stand on the shoulders of giants — and my ancestors’

Michael B. Jordan's family and friends took bets on "how many times [he] was gonna cry tonight" during his acceptance speech at the 2025 American Cinematheque Awards. And for good reason, as many of his former and current collaborators took the stage to shower praises upon the 38-year-old actor.

"Nobody warns you how crazy this is," Jordan said at the start of his 13-minute speech. "You see your whole career flash before your eyes. Thank you, everybody, for taking time out of your lives to say some kind words about me. That really means a lot to me, so I appreciate that."

American Cinematheque Chiefs on Celebrating Its 40th Anniversary and Honoring Michael B. Jordan

American Cinematheque, which is now in its 40th year, is paying homage to Michael B. Jordan in an awards ceremony and fundraiser in Beverly Hills on Nov. 20 and is screening a curated selection of films of the incomparable Diane Keaton through Dec. 6.

“The awards are an annual event, and this one is turning out to be quite exciting,” executive director Ken Scherer tells Variety. “When they created this award, they decided to do ‘mid-career’ as opposed to ‘life achievement.’ And having worked at AFI during some of the Great Life Achievement Award shows, it’s a valid interest because you can catch people on their way up. And Michael B. Jordan is reflective of that original concept. He’s on the ascent and, yet he’s achieved [a lot].”
