Kochi: For Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer TP Salim Kumar, the night of December 14, 2019, remains unforgettable, not because of the long wait at the Mumbai airport, but because of the humiliation he suffered. What was supposed to be a routine flight home to Kochi to spend the weekend with his family ended with Kumar allegedly being publicly embarrassed. He was pulled off a shuttle bus and forced to pay for a lounge service that the airline had promised was complimentary.
After nearly six years of his legal battle, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Ernakulam, ordered IndiGo Airlines to pay ₹1.22 lakh in compensation and costs for “deficiency in service” and “unfair trade practice.” But while the verdict vindicated his long legal battle, Kumar, who currently serves as Customs Deputy Commissioner at Kochi International Airport, said the relief is inadequate for the humiliation and mental trauma he endured.
IndiGo Introduces New Evidence-Based Pilot Training for Safety
GURUGRAM- IndiGo Airlines (6E), India’s largest airline by market share, is preparing to roll out Evidence-Based Training (EBT) programs for its pilots in a move aimed at enhancing flight safety, operational efficiency, and decision-making.
Headquartered near Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL), the airline plans to evolve from its current Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) framework to a fully EBT-compliant model within the next 12 to 18 months, adopting global best practices in aviation training.
IndiGo currently operates more than 2,300 daily flights with a fleet of over 400 aircraft and employs around 5,300 pilots.
As it expands operations with new wide-body aircraft, the airline is investing in modern, data-driven training systems that focus on practical performance rather than theoretical testing.

IndiGo Advances to Evidence-Based Training Model to Enhance Pilot Competence and Safety
India – IndiGo, India’s largest airline by market share and fleet size, has announced plans to implement Evidence-Based Training (EBT) for its flight crew — a next-generation pilot training framework designed to strengthen safety, decision-making, and performance competencies through data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI).
The move represents a major evolution in IndiGo’s flight training philosophy as it transitions from its current Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) model toward a fully integrated, evidence-driven program aligned with global best practices in airline pilot development.
The airline’s pilot workforce, now numbering over 5,300, is expected to double by 2030, supported by a growing order book of 900+ aircraft, including upcoming wide-body additions for long-haul operations.
