PSG 'confident' they can end 15-game Bayern run

Luis Enrique is confident Paris Saint-Germain can bring an end to Bayern Munich's "incredible" 15-game winning run in Tuesday's Champions League showdown.

The German champions head for the French capital to face the last side to beat them in a competitive match, with PSG having emerged 2-0 winners when the sides met in a Club World Cup quarterfinal in Atlanta in July.

Head coach Luis Enrique told a press conference: "If we talk about the results and their run in the last 15 games, it is incredible. We know how difficult it is to win three or four matches in a row, but if it is 15, that is just incredible. They deserve it.

Is Paris Saint-Germain vs Bayern Munich a meeting of European football’s two best teams?

There’s no doubt about which domestic football league is the strongest. UEFA’s coefficient model, which assesses performance over five seasons, has the Premier League a considerable distance ahead of every other competition — and it has topped the seasonal rankings in five of the last six campaigns.

It’s a similar story when you look at Opta’s Power Rankings, which assess more than 10,000 men’s teams across the globe. Premier League sides make up 12 of the top 20, with Brentford currently rated higher than reigning Serie A champions Napoli. You did not get that scenario in Diego Maradona’s heyday.

Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer says past doesn’t matter in Champions League throwdown with PSG

Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer has experienced the highest of highs (2020) and the lowest of lows (2021) vs. Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

None of that will matter, though, when Neuer takes the pitch on Tuesday.

“The focus is clearly on the game. In the summer, we showed a good performance, unfortunately didn’t reward ourselves. We have made steps forward, have developed and started very well,” Neuer said (as captured by Sky Germany’s Kerry Hau). “We have developed further since the Club World Cup and taken steps forward. We have no fear. We are here to win, even if we know that the opponent is very strong. It’s not a do-or-die match, but a lot of prestige is at stake.”
