Lines for TSA screening seen extending outside of Terminal E at Bush Intercontinental Airport

HOUSTON – Lines for TSA screening at Bush Intercontinental Airport were seen coming out of the building Sunday.

Photos shared with KPRC 2 shows the line for screening at Terminal E going outside the terminal and down the sidewalk.

At 6:15 p.m., we received another photo showing the line looking similar to how it had a few hours earlier.

On Friday, the Houston Airports System alerted travelers to arrive early and prepare for long wait times at Bush Intercontinental Airport as the only TSA checkpoints open will be at Terminal A and Terminal E.

On Sunday, Bush Intercontinental Airport said that TSA screen lines may exceed three hours.

HOUSTON — The ongoing government shutdown will cause headaches for air travelers.

The Houston Airport System announced on Saturday that security wait times will increase at Bush and Hobby airports. On Sunday, officials warned that TSA wait times may now exceed 90 minutes at Bush Intercontinental Airport and 60 minutes at Hobby Airport.

Security lines have been reduced as the TSA and air traffic controllers face staffing issues. Though both are considered essential workers, air traffic controllers have increasingly called out sick since the shutdown began.

At Bush Airport, security lines will be open only in Terminals A and E.

TSA wait times may exceed 60 minutes at Houston's airports

Wait times at TSA checkpoints at Houston airports have skyrocketed over the weekend.

HOUSTON – Travelers flying out of George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) are being advised to arrive significantly earlier than usual as Transportation Security Administration (TSA) wait times are exceeding over three hours.

Airport officials released a statement urging travelers to factor in extra time for parking, checking luggage, and completing the security screening process.

The high wait times are compounded by reduced checkpoint availability. The airport currently has only two TSA checkpoints operational: Terminal A and Terminal E.

If you're traveling through Houston's Bush or Hobby Airports this weekend, you'll need to have some extra time and patience due to reduced security checkpoints.
