NFL insider reveals recovery timeline for Pat Surtain's injury

The Denver Broncos could be without star cornerback Pat Surtain for at least a month.

Surtain suffered a pectoral injury against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday and he's expected to miss 4-6 weeks, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. The good news is that Surtain does not need surgery, and he will now seek a second opinion before confirming a potential recovery timeline.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport tweeted on Monday evening that PS2 suffered a pec strain that will leave him with a "week-to-week" status, and he could land on short-term injured reserve. ESPN's Adam Schefter also tweeted that Surtain is a candidate for short-term IR. If he is placed on IR, Surtain would be required to sit out at least four games before being eligible to return to the active roster.

Patrick Surtain II Expected to Miss Multiple Weeks With Pec Injury

The Broncos' defense will be without its best player for multiple weeks.

Star cornerback Patrick Surtain II is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks while dealing with a pec strain he sustained during Sunday's win against the Cowboys, per NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

Surtain exited the game in the first half and did not return. He defended a pass to George Pickens in the end zone and landed awkwardly on the turf. He had to be helped off the field and went into the locker room for treatment. He did not come back out for the second half and was ruled out shortly after halftime.

Broncos' Surtain set for tests on ailing shoulder

DENVER — Reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Pat Surtain II left the Broncos' 44-24 win over the Cowboys on Sunday just before halftime because of a left shoulder injury.

The two-time All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowl selection will undergo tests, including an MRI, to determine the severity of the injury.

Any potential absence will be a massive loss for Denver; defensive coordinator Vance Joseph has gone as far as to say, "Everything we do starts with Pat.''

"Obviously we hope he's healthy, obviously he's a big part of what we do,'' linebacker Justin Strnad said. "Hopefully he's healthy and … we'll adjust if we need to. But hopefully he's healthy.''
