If Yelich and Turang heat back up, will Crew follow? History says yes

LOS ANGELES — The Brewers know it won't be easy to rally past the Dodgers in the National League Championship Series — a task that will require them to win four of the potential next five games.

But a path to the NL pennant becomes far more feasible if two of Milwaukee's best hitters — Christian Yelich and Brice Turang — can find their respective swings as the series shifts to Los Angeles.

The fact is, the Brewers go as those two go. It's not a novel concept — most teams tend to perform better when their star hitters are, well, hitting.

Stephen A. Smith throws shade at city of Milwaukee as he declares Brewers' NLCS with Dodgers over

Stephen A. Smith isn’t just calling it a season for the Milwaukee Brewers.

The high-profile ESPN personality, in the same breath, also says the Milwaukee Bucks and Green Bay Packers don't have a chance, either.

Oh, and while he didn’t call Milwaukee a terrible city, like he did four years ago, he again threw a bit of shade.

Smith, who hosts a popular morning sports debate show on ESPN, took to his “Stephen A. Smith Show” on YouTube to give his take on not just the Brewers' struggles in the National League Championship Series against the reigning World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers but also how he feels other Wisconsin sports teams won't be winning any time soon.

2025 MLB playoffs: How Brewers can rally from 2-0 NLCS deficit vs. Shohei Ohtani and the Dodgers

With Tuesday's loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 2 of the National League Championship Series, the Milwaukee Brewers now find themselves down by a 2-0 margin in the best-of-seven set. The Brewers, the team with the best record during Major League Baseball's regular season, will now have to defy overwhelming odds to advance to their first World Series since 1982.

How deep of a hole are the Brewers in? MLB teams that have trailed 2-0 in a best-of-seven series have an all-time record of 15-78, according to WhoWins. That's roughly an 84% elimination rate. Of course, the Brewers needn't worry themselves with empirical data, lest this become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
