Celebrate the spooky season in Westchester County! Join us in-person in the Gothic Chamber as we watch Tim Burton’s “Sleepy Hollow” (1999, R). Based on the Washington Irving tale by the same name, “Sleepy Hollow” is set in 1799 New York where young police constable Ichabod Crane investigates a series of murders in the rural town of Sleepy Hollow. We’ll hear from Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site manager Michael Lord with commentary on what is and isn’t accurate to Irving’s story, the Hudson Valley’s Dutch heritage, and the history of late 18th century New York. “Sleepy Hollow” is rated R and is not recommended for young audiences.
Tim Burton's Most Brutal Movie Is a Streaming Sensation Over 25 Years Later
Whether you knew it or not, the ever-impressive gothic eye of the legendary Tim Burton has been all over your screens these past few months, as the director oversaw four of the eight episodes in the hit second season of Netflix's Wednesday. Among the smash series' cast is a former collaborator of Burton's, Christina Ricci, with the pair having found success with another project over 25 years ago — one that, today, is hitting impressive streaming heights.
Starring another long-time Burton collaborator in Johnny Depp, the 1999 horror flick Sleepy Hollow, loosely adapted from Washington Irving's 1820 short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, is a streaming hit in the U.S. At the time of writing, Sleepy Hollow is one of the ten most-streamed movies on Pluto TV, and sits among an exciting list of other beloved titles. This includes all three movies in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather trilogy, the Cillian Murphy-led 28 Days Later, the hilarious Coming to America, the 2005 Western flick An Unfinished Life, and more.

(Yes, we know it rhymes.)
We continue our 31 days of Frights with Sleepy Hollow from 1999. Constable Ichabod Crane is sent to the tiny village of Sleepy Hollow, where a headless horseman is leaving a trail of decapitated bodies.
I feel that most people know the story of the Headless Horseman: a haunting headless figure who rides a horse and sometimes throws jack o’ lanterns at people. Some people had to read the book written by Washington Irving in school, perhaps. There is also a chance that people first met the horseman from watching the old Disney animated film. But in 1999 Tim Burton released his own live-action version, and it is bloody as hell.
