SC State campus on lockdown after shooting, officials say
ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WIS) – South Carolina State has issued a lockdown on campus after reports of a shooting on Saturday night.
The university issued an alert after reports of shots at Hugine Suites.
SC State urges Hugine Suites residents who are not in the complex to report to the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center
âStudents in other residence halls return to their rooms. Off-campus residents, please exit the campus,â the school says in the alert.
The homecoming concert scheduled for Saturday was also canceled as a result of the shooting.
SLED released a statement regarding the shooting shortly after midnight, stating: âSLED is investigating and may have more information at a later time.â
South Carolina State University on lockdown after reported dorm shooting
The campus of South Carolina State University was under a lockdown Saturday night following a reported shooting at a residence hall, according to a notice on the university's website.Â
In the notice, the university said the campus was on lockdown following "shots fired at Hugine Suites."
The State Law Enforcement Division was being asked to investigate, the university said.Â
The university said students in the Hugine Suites dorm should remain put, and others should stay away and return to their own residence halls. Others were asked to leave the campus.Â
The university said a homecoming concert scheduled for Saturday night has been canceled.
