James Cameron Changed Avatar: Fire and Ash to Reference Key Scene in Original Movie

In Avatar 3, James Cameron revealed that Fire and Ash will have a major callback to the first movie.

In an interview with Variety, Cameron previewed Avatar: Fire and Ash and discussed his creative process. Cameron said he rarely second-guesses his “creative impulses.” However, he did do it once while working on Avatar 3 when he felt the storytelling was “a little off.”

“Our Toruk is back [in Fire and Ash], right? You know, the big bird that Jake rides [in Avatar]. I’ve always been waiting for the question, ‘Why doesn’t he just go get the big red bird and kill everybody like he used to do?’ Because that doesn’t exist in The Way of Water at all,” Cameron explained

‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ Re-Release to Include Never-Before-Seen ‘Fire and Ash’ Footage — With a Twist (EXCLUSIVE)

“Avatar: The Way of Water” returns to theaters worldwide on Oct. 3, and fans who go to relive James Cameron’s 2022 blockbuster on the big screen will be rewarded with a sneak peak at its sequel, “Avatar: Fire and Ash.” Each screening of the “The Way of Water” re-release will be accompanied by never-before-seen “Fire and Ash” footage. However, not every screening will offer the same experience.

There are three different, brand new clips from “Fire and Ash” that will play after “The Way of Water,” but each screening will only play one of the three.

“Fire and Ash” is the third film in James Cameron’s “Avatar” series, which began in 2009 with “Avatar” and picked up thirteen years later with “The Way of Water.” The first movie was a landmark achievement in visual effects and performance capture, and a milestone at the box office. It grossed over $2.9 billion dollars worldwide and maintains its spot as the highest-grossing film of all time. “The Way of Water” fared similarly well, introducing even more novel special effects from Weta FX and grossing $2.3 billion worldwide. It is the third highest-grossing film of all time, after its predecessor and “Avengers: Endgame.”
