Athletics 6-0 Astros (Sep 24, 2025) Game Recap
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — — Shea Langeliers had four hits, including back-to-back home runs with Tyler Soderstrom, and the Athletics beat Houston 6-0 on Wednesday night, handing the Astros their fifth straight loss.
The Astros, who had won the last four AL West titles and seven of the last eight, remained one game behind Detroit for the final AL wild card with four games remaining. The Seattle Mariners clinched the AL West earlier Wednesday.
Langeliers had infield hits his first two times up off Hunter Brown (12-9) and an RBI double in the fifth for a 2-0 lead. Langeliers then hit his 31st homer — a solo shot — and Soderstrom followed with his 25th off Bryan King in the seventh for the final margin.

WEST SACRAMENTO — The Athletics will not reach the postseason in 2025, but their continued strong play over the second half has developed into a major contribution in crushing the dwindling playoff dreams of the division-rival Astros.
Opening up a three-game series on Tuesday night at Sutter Health Park against an Astros club in full-on desperation mode, the A’s played the spoiler role to a T with a 5-1 win. The victory sank Houston to a full game behind Detroit for the third Wild Card in the American League, with only five games left in the regular season.
Should the Astros miss out on the playoffs for the first time since 2016, the A’s will have played a vital role in snapping that eight-year streak. Following Tuesday’s win, the A’s are now 7-4 against Houston, having won the last six meetings between the two clubs.

Astros drop second game to A’s 6-0
The Astros dropped the series to the A’s, losing the second of three games 6-0 on Wednesday. This is not the fifth loss in a row for the Astros and the third game where they fail to score at least two runs.
For the fifth game in a row, the Astros allowed their opponent to score first after an RBI-double in the third put the Athletics up 1-0 early on Houston. In those five games, the Astros are 1-4, with the four losses coming in the last four games.
They continued to pour it on the Astros in the fifth inning, adding another three runs and taking a 4-0 lead. Up to this point, the Astros had only had two base runners the whole game, one of them being a leadoff walk to Jose Altuve to start the game.
