Hurricane Gabrielle to slam Azores with destructive waves, dangerous storm surge on trek toward Europe

A Hurricane Warning has been issued for the Azores as powerful Hurricane Gabrielle continues to move across the Atlantic. FOX Weather Meteorologists Britta Merwin and Haley Meier have the latest forecast on Sept. 24, 2025.

PONTA DELGADA, Azores – A Hurricane Warning has been issued for the Azores as Hurricane Gabrielle continues to barrel across the Atlantic toward the islands and European coastline as a monster Category 3 hurricane.

The Azores sit some 850 miles off the coast of Portugal, and forecasters have warned people there to keep an eye on the forecast as the hurricane moves closer to the archipelago in the North Atlantic.

Atlantic hurricane season: Two tropical systems could develop this week as 2025 season enters its final months

Two tropical systems could churn to life this week as Atlantic hurricane season enters its final months and the hot spots to watch for storm development begin to move closer to home.

One disturbance, Invest 94L, is currently producing disorganized showers and storms near the northeastern Caribbean and could develop into a tropical depression as it approaches the Bahamas or Southeast US Coast. The other system to its east, Invest 93L, could organize and threaten Bermuda early next week, possibly as a hurricane.

“Invest” is simply a label the National Hurricane Center gives to a patch of stormy weather it wants to investigate for possible tropical development within the next week. Once tagged as an invest, the thunderstorm cluster is assigned its own set of satellite data and computer model runs to help forecasters more accurately predict its potential track and strength.
