Sources: Hawks trading Bufkin to Nets for cash
The Atlanta Hawks are trading guard Kobe Bufkin to the Brooklyn Nets for cash considerations, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania on Monday.
Bufkin, Atlanta's No. 15 pick in the 2023 NBA draft, is due $5.4 million this season and has a $6.9 million team option for 2026-27.
The move opens roster flexibility for the Hawks — and gives them a $4.5 million trade exception — while providing the 21-year-old guard a fresh opportunity in Brooklyn.
The Nets have $11.6 million in cap space following the move, with 15 players on guaranteed contracts.
Bufkin appeared in just 27 games for the Hawks over the last two seasons. He averaged 23.6 points while playing 14 games in the G League in 2023-24.

NEW YORK (AP) â The Brooklyn Nets acquired guard Kobe Bufkin from the Atlanta Hawks for cash considerations, the teams announced Tuesday.
Bufkin played in just 27 games because of injuries since Atlanta drafted him out of Michigan with the No. 15 pick in 2023. He averaged 5.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists.
Bufkin broke his thumb and appeared in 17 games as a rookie. He made 10 appearances last year before having season-ending shoulder surgery.

Bufkin, a guard who played for Grand Rapids Christian High School before suiting up for the Wolverines for two seasons, was the No. 15 pick in the 2023 NBA draft. He is due $5.4 million this coming season and has a team option for $6.9 million for 2026-27. Per Charania, the deal âopens roster flexibility for the HawksâŚwhile providing the 21-year-old guard a fresh opportunity in Brooklyn.â
His NBA career has been limited by injuries: a finger, a toe, and a season-ending shoulder surgery in December. Heâs appeared in 27 games over two seasons, averaging 11.9 minutes per game and shooting 37 percent from the field. He was much more productive during his time in the G League.
