How to Watch New Mexico at Michigan on Big Ten Saturday Night
All you need to know to catch the first-ever football matchup between the New Mexico Lobos and the Michigan Wolverines.
It’s an all-new season for the maize and blue of Michigan, with the Wolverines only two years removed from winning it all in college football’s 2023 National Championship game. Even after last year's comparative disappointment, the Big House in Ann Arbor will still be a rockin’ place for the Wolverines’ 2025 season opener — which just so happens to be the Saturday centerpiece of NBC and Peacock’s Big Ten kickoff broadcast of college football's Week 1.
Earlier Big Ten action unfolds when coverage officially starts on Peacock with a Friday, August 29 game between Western Illinois and Illinois at 7:30 p.m. Click here for all you need to know about how to watch that matchup, while we stick with Michigan to find out how to catch the Wolverines at home as they prepare for the season’s first coin toss.
What channel is Michigan State vs Western Michigan on today? Time, TV schedule in Week 1
After a long summer of waiting, Michigan State football is back.
The Spartans begin their 2025 season with a Week 1 opener against Western Michigan, taking place on Friday, Aug. 29, at Spartan Stadium. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. ET and will air on FS1 and streamed on Fubo.
The Spartans hope this will be a bounce-back year, with junior quarterback Aidan Chiles beginning his second year as Michigan State's starter. Chiles led MSU to a 5-7 overall record in 2024 as the Spartans missed out on a bowl game for the fourth straight season.
MSU is 15-2 all-time against Western Michigan and hasn't lost to the Broncos since 1919. Their last matchup was on Sept. 2, 2022 — a 35-13 MSU win.

Scouting report: Michigan football vs. New Mexico
Angelique S. Chengelis of The Detroit News breaks down Michigan's Week 1 matchup against New Mexico.
It could be a long night for the New Mexico offense, considering the Lobos returned only one starter to the line, Richard Pearce. All things start in the trenches with the offensive line, so how quickly this group finds a groove is most important because the Lobos are going against the Wolverines’ strength. The Lobos want to run the ball, but will this line be able to create holes against a defense with depth? That could be tough against the Wolerines' front seven.
▶ Jack Layne, quarterback: The 6-foot-2, 206-pounder transferred from Idaho, following his head coach to the Lobos. His position coach Luke Schleusner has worked with Layne the last four years, so it’s a new situation but not entirely unfamiliar. He was All-FCS last season despite missing the early part of the season because of injury. Layne played in seven games and threw for 1,472 yards (100-of-155) and 14 touchdowns against four interceptions. He also rushed for 23 yards on 25 carries.
