How much will Alabama football pay East Carolina to replace West Virginia on 2026 schedule?
Alabama football announced Wednesday that it and West Virginia agreed to cancel their home-and-home series scheduled for the 2026 and 2027 seasons. In place of the 2026 game, the Crimson Tide added East Carolina to the schedule.
UA will pay $1.5 million to the Pirates for the game, according to a contract obtained by AL.com via an open records request. The matchup with ECU is scheduled for Sept. 5, 2026 in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
The game contract, dated July 25 but signed on Aug. 21, is fairly standard. The game will feature SEC officials, and the SEC will have the TV broadcast rights.
The addition of East Carolina came because of the SECâs move to nine conference football games for 2026 and beyond. The move to nine games was announced on Aug. 21, the same day the ECU game contract was signed.

Alabama and West Virginia mutually agreed to cancel their home-and-home series that had been scheduled for 2026 and 2027, the schools announced Tuesday.
Alabama said it was making adjustments to its nonconference schedule in response to last week's announcement that the Southeastern Conference would go from playing eight to nine league games starting in 2026.
West Virginia said it wanted to align with the scheduling philosophy followed by many teams contending for a College Football Playoff berth. That means playing a fellow power-conference opponent, one from the Group of Five and one from the second-tier Football Championship Subdivision.
