Tornado Warning issued for Tennessee border county

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The National Weather Service put out an alert for a potential tornado along the Tennessee/Alabama border on Wednesday afternoon.

The most volatile area appeared to be around the town of Winchester, Tennessee, just north of the Alabama state line, approximately 94 miles southeast of Nashville.

Franklin County was under a Tornado Warning for roughly 45 minutes, from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m.

No rotation was reported on the ground, and NWS allowed the alert window to expire with no extension.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — On Wednesday, a tornado warning was issued for north central Jackson County, Alabama, and southeastern Franklin County, Tennessee, until 4:30 p.m. CDT.

Tornado warning for Jackson County early Wednesday evening – take cover now

On Wednesday at 3:44 p.m. the National Weather Service released a tornado warning in effect until 4:30 p.m. for Jackson County.

"At 3:44 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located 10 miles southeast of Cowan, or 12 miles northwest of Bridgeport, moving south at 10 mph," states the weather service. "Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely."

The weather service states, "Take cover now! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris."
