Chicago weather: Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 7 p.m.

CHICAGO – A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for much of the area until 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The watch is in effect for Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Kane, Kendal, Lake, McHenry, and Will counties, the NWS said.

Severe Thunderstorm Warnings have been issued for parts of Illinois and Indiana with quarter-sized hail and winds up to 60 mph.

– 5:20 p.m. – Severe Thunderstorm Warning continues for Aurora IL, Naperville IL and Bolingbrook IL until 5:45 PM CDT. This storm will contain wind gusts to 70 MPH! 

– 5:13 p.m. – Flash Flood Warning including Naperville IL, Downers Grove IL and Woodridge IL until 7:30 PM CDT

Severe thunderstorm warnings, watches issued across Chicago area

Severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings were issued on Saturday afternoon as strong storms neared the Chicago area.

Most recently, a flash flood warning was issued for southern DuPage County until 7:30 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm warning was also issued for northeastern Kendall County, northwestern Will County, southeastern Kane County, southern DuPage County and south central Cook County until 5:45 p.m. Around 5 p.m., a severe storm was located over North Aurora, moving southeast at 40 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS also issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Will counties in Illinois, along with Lake and Porter counties in Indiana until 7 p.m.
