NEW YORK — — Joe Ryan allowed a run and four hits in 6 2/3 innings and the Minnesota Twins beat the Yankees 4-1 on Wednesday night, breaking a nine-game losing streak to New York.
Ryan (12-5) allowed only a homer to Cody Bellinger in the game that was delayed at the start for 1 hour, 52, minutes because of rain.
The right-hander struck out seven, walked two and threw his hardest pitch of the season when he struck out Aaron Judge on a 97.7 mph fastball in the first. After Bellinger homered, Ryan struck out the next four hitters and allowed two baserunners the rest of the way.

Even worse, dating back to April 25, 2023, the Twins had lost nine straight games to the Yankees, but the streak came to an end with a 4-1 victory at Yankee Stadium.
Before the game, there was a one-hour, 52-minute rain delay. Twins ace Joe Ryan was able to get his pregame work done and take a nap before the game started at 8:57 p.m. ET. Taking the snooze seemed to work. Leave it to Ryan to help the Twins have a happy flight back to Minnesota to play a four-game series against the Tigers. He pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out seven batters. Ryan’s only blemish was allowing a third-inning home run to Cody Bellinger that gave the Yankees a 1-0 lead.

NEW YORK — It had been more than two years, back on April 25, 2023, since the Twins had beaten their chief tormentors, or even held a two-run lead over the Yankees. Outscored 63-21 during the streak, not to mention 15-3 in the first two games here this week, the Twins have not been competitive in New York in quite a while.
But Ryan, who started none of those nine losses, made them so. Having won two of his three starts in the Bronx, he’s one of the few recent Twins who actually enjoys playing here.
