Knicks’ final signing just became crystal clear after latest rumors

With Landry Shamet seemingly favored to grab one of the New York Knicks’ final two roster spots, it allows us to read the tea leaves, and discern who their final signing will be.

This is almost a default decision. By handing out another minimum for a veteran with two-plus years experience, like Shamet, the Knicks will only have room to offer a rookie-minimum deal to bring the roster up to 14 players.

We now know Kevin McCullar Jr. doesn’t qualify to receive that contract. He must be treated as a player with one year of service, despite spending all of last season on a two-way contract. That put his minimum salary at $2.05 million, which is nearly $800,000 above the rookie minimum.

The New York Knicks are still searching for that last missing piece to fill out their final roster spot, and momentum is heading towards bringing back a familiar face.

Per SNY’s Ian Begley, the Knicks are strongly considering bringing back veteran sharpshooter Landry Shamet. The 28-year-old spent last season with the team, and could be back to fill out the final roster spot.

“I think there’s a lot of support internally for bringing Shamet back,” Begley said on The Putback. “I think there’s a lot of respect for what he did last year with the shoulder injury, getting back on the floor, impacting things in the postseason when he came back in the rotation after not being in it for so long.

New York Knicks and ex-76ers draft pick have 'mutual interest' and tipped to come to terms on deal, insider predicts

Even though it has taken some time, the New York Knicks are close to bringing back a former Philadelphia 76ers star next season.

The Knicks have made several signings this offseason. They’re clearly trying to take advantage of a weakened Eastern Conference.

After the Knicks fired Tom Thibodeau, they decided to go in a different direction. To replace him, the Knicks signed Mike Brown to be their next head coach.

But the Knicks also landed Guerschon Yabusele in free agency, along with Jordan Clarkson, after he agreed to a contract buyout.

As it turns out, Yabusele isn’t the only former 76ers star that the Knicks are planning to sign, as they are close to a deal with another.
