CeeDee on Schotty's sternness: 'We need discipline'

OXNARD, Calif. — There was a moment during Dallas Cowboys' practice on Wednesday where it felt as if Brian Schottenheimer was channeling his late, great father Marty, or coach Herman Boone from the legendary film "Remember the Titans" or, hell, maybe a bit of both.

"When you put that uniform on, you better come to work. We will be perfect in every aspect of the game. You fight in practice, you run a mile."

That isn't exactly what Boone said, but hearing Schottenheimer give his team two earfuls of furious expletives after halting practice to make the entire roster run sideline to sideline repeatedly for the remaining 15 minutes — all because the chippiness of had again spilled over into another near-fight; and only days after Schottenheimer made it clear crossing that line would not be tolerated.

One fight. Then another. And another. Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer had seen enough

Irritated by the series of scuffles that interrupted Wednesday’s practice, Brian Schottenheimer came up with an alternative for the Dallas Cowboys: He ordered wind sprints before calling off the practice.

Talk about putting your foot down. And the rookie head coach left no gray area in expressing his disgust. Before and after the players ran several times from sideline to sideline, Schottenheimer gathered the team for huddles in the middle of the field for some expletive-laced messaging.

George Pickens could be explosive for Cowboys – one way or another

“He’s got a standard,” Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott told USA TODAY Sports after practice. “He’s preaching about being competitive and not combative. He’s also preaching living on the edge of toughness and competition, and not to go over it.

OXNARD, Calif. (AP) — When the Dallas Cowboys wouldn’t stop fighting, coach Brian Schottenheimer made them run.

During a noticeably fraught practice in what has been an aggressive training camp, Schottenheimer stepped in Wednesday after a heated red-zone drill led to the third fight of the day. The new coach pulled the team together for a lengthy and expletive-filled speech before sending players back out to start running sideline to sideline.

Following the punishing sprints, Schottenheimer brought the team back together for a second address before he ended practice early.
