BEND, Ore. (KATU) â The Cram Fire burning in Jefferson and Wasco counties has ballooned in size, and is now about 28,000 acres, according to Central Oregon Fire Information on Tuesday morning
Officials said the fire was caused by humans and is 0% contained.
Oregon State Fire Marshal says it is mobilizing resources to combat the fast-moving fire that is being pushed along by gusty winds. The fire has prompted evacuations, including levels 1, 2, and 3, in both Jefferson County and Wasco County. One evacuation zone east of Highway 97 and south of Highway 293 and west of Lower Tub Spring Road to the Wasco/Jefferson County Border has now been updated to a Level 3: GO NOW!The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office also announced late Monday night that two additional zones, NE 17 and NE 18, on the east side of Jefferson County, have been elevated to a level 3 evacuation status due to the Cram Fire.

ASHWOOD, Ore. (KTVZ) — The fast-growing Cram Fire northeast of Madras exploded across nearly 29,000 acres in the heat and wind on Monday and was moving west Tuesday toward Highway 97, prompting the highway's closure and wider evacuations.
ODOT announced late Tuesday morning:Â U.S. 97 is closed north of Madras from milepost 70 to 75 due to a wildfire. Expect extended delays or use an alternate route. Highways near wildfires may open or close with little notice, fire activity is unpredictable. Track updates at www.tripcheck.com.
The fire, which broke out along Highway 97 on Sunday, continues pushing through steep, rugged terrain and swept Monday into the small town of Ashwood, challenging the efforts of hundreds of firefighters on the ground and in the air.
