CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Rounds of thunderstorms were possible Wednesday and the next few days in the Charlotte region.

Storms were headed for the Carolinas on Wednesday, July 9. Some areas were under a severe thunderstorm warning by Wednesday evening, while flash watches and warnings were also active in some counties.

Severe storms were expected to impact parts of the area on Wednesday afternoon and evening. The storms were expected to move slowly and produce heavy rainfall, prompting a flooding concern.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The WCNC Charlotte Weather Impact Team issued a Weather Alert for the middle of the week, first due to the threat of extreme heat then for heavy rain impacts across North Carolina and South Carolina. 

Heat index values flirted with the low 100s across the Charlotte area Tuesday and did the same on Wednesday, but the Weather Alert narrative shifted to more of a severe storm and flood threat putting heat on the back burner for now. Wednesday and Thursday could produce storms that will prompt Severe Thunderstorm Warnings, Flood Advisories and Flash Flood Warnings.

Make sure to have multiple ways to get flood alerts. Friday afternoon will have isolated storms, but they're not nearly as widespread.
