J-Ram opting out of ASG, replaced by Paredes on AL roster

After he puts the finishing touches on his stellar first half this weekend in Chicago, José Ramírez will spend the All-Star break gearing up to finish 2025 strong for the Guardians.

Ramírez will not play in the 2025 MLB All-Star Game presented by Mastercard, as he will instead focus on recovery ahead of the second half of the season. Astros third baseman Isaac Paredes has replaced the 32-year-old on the American League’s roster for the Midsummer Classic, which is set for Tuesday at Atlanta’s Truist Park.

Guardians star Jose Ramirez won't play in 2025 MLB All-Star Game. Who's his replacement?

Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez was set to be in the American League's starting lineup for the 2025 MLB All-Star Game, but he'll instead sit out the festivities.

Ramirez will be replaced on the AL All-Star roster to focus on rest, recovery and the second half of the season, according to an announcement from the team. Houston Astros third baseman Isaac Parades will replace him.

Ramirez was recently selected to his seventh All-Star squad, one shy of the franchise record held by Bob Feller. It was also Ramirez's fourth time being voted into the starting lineup.

This also means Ramirez won't participate in the Home Run Derby.

Jose Ramirez will miss All-Star Game to concentrate or recovery from heel-ankle injury

HOUSTON — Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez has decided to skip this year’s All-Star Game to focus on recovering from a right ankle and heel injury he suffered in May against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Ramirez was set to participate in his seventh All-Star Game on July 15 in Atlanta when he made the decision not to play or attend the festivities. He was elected by the fans to start for the fourth time at third base for the American League.

Ramirez was injured in a game against the Blue Jays on May 2 at Rogers Centre. In the third inning, he beat out an infield single to pitcher Chris Bassitt. As Ramirez closed in on first base, he was hit in the back by Bassitt’s throw, landed awkwardly on the bag and went tumbling over it.
