In a surprising shift, US President Donald Trump has announced that tariffs on Serbian exports to the United States will be reduced to just 2%, effective 1 August 2025.
The announcement, made via Trumpâs Truth Social platform and in a letter to Serbian President Aleksandar VuÄiÄ, marks a stark reversal from his earlier rhetoric.
Just months ago, in April, Trump threatened to impose a 37% tariff on Serbian goods, citing what he called an âunfair and non-reciprocalâ trade relationship.
Now, he frames the reduction as a strategic gesture to encourage deeper economic cooperation, noting that Serbian companies establishing production in the US could be exempt from tariffs altogether.
Trump Tells President Vucic He Wants to Make a Trade Deal
President Donald Trump is turning his trade deal attention to Serbia. In a letter obtained by The Pavlovic Today, the president says he is ready to strike a trade deal or impose a 35% tariff on all Serbian imports to the U.S. starting Aug. 1, 2025. But, like in all things Trump, hereâs the twist: the tariff threat is really a deal offer â New York-style.
