Marikay Abuzuaiter elected as next mayor of Greensboro, defeating Robbie Perkins

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Marikay Abuzuaiter has been elected mayor of Greensboro, defeating opponent Robbie Perkins to become the first new mayor the Triad’s largest city has seen in over a decade. 

With 100% of precincts reported and more than 52,000 votes cast, Abuzuaiter won with 60.67% of the vote, compared to 38.78% for Perkins. 

Abuzuaiter has served on Greensboro’s City Council since 2011 and was named the city’s Mayor Pro Tem in January following the death of Yvonne Johnson. She will succeed outgoing Mayor Nancy Vaughn, who chose not to seek reelection this year.
